Because the IHL lost three Michigan franchises Muskegon, Port Huron and Flint it will contribute only five teams to the expanded CHL. Evansville will be joining the surviving four teams from Bloomington, Ill., Dayton, Ohio, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Moline, Ill. Quad City to make up one of the divisions, according to Geary.

Were still working out the details, said Geary, who was in Las Vegas on Tuesday for the IHL meetings. Were still in discussions with the Central Hockey League on a lot of issues.

Geary had planned to delay the IceMens admission into the IHL as an expansion franchise until the 201112 season. But now the IceMen will join the league as a relocated franchise after Geary purchased the rights to the player contracts of the former Muskegon Lumberjacks.

However, the Lumberjacks name will remain with the Muskegon entry in the United States Hockey League, a juniors league.

Geary also said he is in negotiations with some members of the Lumberjacks former IHL staff, but he refused to confirm reports that hes talked to head coach Rich Kromm. Kromm led the Lumberjacks to the best record in the IHL regular season last year.

Jack Collins coached the IceMen to the AAHL title last season and Geary said Collins is under consideration for a position with the franchise. Jack has done a great job for us in the past and were still talking, but no decision has been made about who will be the coach, said Geary.

While awaiting the construction of a new downtown arena, Geary said the IceMen will play its games at Swonder Ice Arena. He said the addition of bleachers will boost the seating capacity to close to 1,500.

Well make it work for now, said Geary.

Moving up to the combined IHLCHL will increase the IceMens budgets fourfive fold as well as increase the teams frontoffice staff, according to Geary.

We want to be competitive in all aspects next season, said Geary.

The AAHLs weekly salary cap for players was $2,750 last season. In comparison, Geary said the IHLs weekly salary cap is $13,000.

The AAHL wasnt exactly the steadiest league out there. In 2 years they lost 4 teams and I dont see how the other 3 are making it with only at best 200 fans per game in attendance. At least the IHL/CHL will have 18 teams so we get some variety in opponents and some easy road trips plus being double a some pretty good hockey. I hope the Icemen do well but with the attitude here in eville where everybody would rather go out to eat and catch a movie then complain that there is nothing to do, I hope they dont end up like the triplets, thunder and bluecats. If that does happen I would hope Mr Geary realizes that there are 10001200 die hard Icemen fans here and he would look to keep the team around
