Report on Newtown shootings ready

HARTFORD AP Investigators say the muchanticipated report into the Newtown school shooting is expected to be released this fall.

Danbury States Attorney Stephen J. Sedensky III and Chief States Attorney Kevin Kane met Tuesday morning with Gov. Dannel P. Malloys chief of staff and provided an update on the investigation into the Dec. 14 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

In a written statement, the prosecutors said Sedensky expects to issue his report in the fall. They did not provide further details on the investigation.

Sedensky estimated in January the probe could be finished this summer, perhaps June. In May, state police said it could take as long as September.

Salman Khan launches website to tell truth about court cases

Mumbai, June 26: Days after the shocking court decision on Salman Khan, the Bollywood actor finally broke his silence. The actor on Wednesday, June 26 launched his own website which would give all details regarding the court cases involving the actor.

The landing page of Salman Khans website says, Certain court cases are filed against me. There is widespread media reporting of these cases. The reports are sometimes inaccurate and misleading, and cause damage to my reputation, both personal and professional.

Continuing the statement, the actor said, I encourage all those interested in knowing about the cases, particularly the media, to verify facts available on this site.

Salmans latest move of launching the site has been taken following a Mumbai session courts decision of dismissing his plea in connection with 2002 hit and run case.

Overruling Salmans plea, the court decided that he would be tried in culpable homicide charge which implicates a jail term of 10 year.

The actor had appealed against a magistrates order for his retrial in the 2002 hitandrun case under stringent charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Salman Khan was earlier tried by a magistrate under lesser charge of causing death by negligence Section 304A of IPC, that provides for a maximum punishment of two years in jail.

Advancing his argument against invoking the grave charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under section 304 part II IPC, Salmans lawyer Ashok Mundargi had pleaded that the magistrates order was erroneous, bad in law and contrary to evidence on record.

The magistrate, he contended, had failed to appreciate that Salman Khan had neither the intention to kill people nor the knowledge that his rash and negligent driving would kill a person and cause injury to four others..

Romney split early vote in Florida

TAMPA For the nations largest and perhaps most influential swing state, election night was a slow grind of razorthin, anxietyinducing vote counting no matter which side you were on.

President Barack Obama and GOP challenger Mitt Romney traded leads as the votes were tallied. With 85 percent of precincts reporting, the candidates were essentially tied and separated by just thousands of votes out of more than 7.4 million ballots cast.

A few key areas were still awaiting results, most notably Broward and Santa Rosa counties, the polar opposites of this diverse Florida. Broward is a large county in the liberal, southeastern part of the state and Santa Rosa is a smaller, conservative county, in the far western Panhandle near Alabama.

The close race was expected after months of candidate visits, campaign bitterness and some $130 million spent on TV ads. The state was worth 29 electoral votes.

Florida, with its diversity, wealth and political cache has long been seen as a tossup by political experts. Obama won here in 2008, but since then, the states unemployment and foreclosure rates have remained above the national average. Another win in Florida would all but assure Obama four more years in the White House, but the race was very tight.

At one point in the evening, the margin that separated the two candidates was less than 1,000 votes, reminiscent of the infamous 2000 election.

If the margin of victory is less than a halfpercentage point, an automatic computer recount would be conducted. If the margin is less than a quarterpercent, a manual recount would be done.

The recount would not be as difficult as the lengthy one in 2000. The state no longer uses punchcard ballots, which became known for their hanging, dimpled and pregnant chads. All 67 counties now use optical scan ballots where the voters mark their selections manually.

Republican George W. Bush won the 2000 contest after the Supreme Court declared him the winner over Democrat Al Gore by a scant 537 votes.

In other Florida races, voters chose Sen. Bill Nelson to keep his seat in a race against GOP Rep. Connie Mack. Florida also picked seats for Congress; the Legislature; whether to retain three state Supreme Court justices; and voters decided on 11 state constitutional amendments.

Turnout appeared to be heavy, with long lines reported in many places, even though more than 4.5 million people out of nearly 12 million registered voters cast ballots early. There were reports of sporadic, but mostly minor problems at the polls Tuesday. One Florida elections office mistakenly told voters in robocalls the election was on Wednesday. Another office lost power for about 45 minutes.

Ashely Bass, 22, voted in her second presidential contest, choosing Romney. The Lee County resident in the southwest part of the state picked Republican Sen. John McCain four years ago.

I see a lot of Bush in Romney and I really like him. The only thing I dont like is his ideas about Planned Parenthood. I am against abortion, but I am not against birth control, she said.

Others said they liked the presidents recent leadership.

I made my mind up when I saw Obama get that storm response out so quick, said retiree Raymond Tisdale, 77, of Port Charlotte. I was thinking about voting for Romney, but he just flip flopped too much.

The former building contractor continued said he sees the economy improving.

Obama had a lot on his plate when he started, like unemployment going up, but now it seems like it has turned in the other direction. We all need to make a living, he said.

Floridas voters are difficult to categorize. Its a transient state, the fourthlargest in the nation. probably came from another state. There are New Yorkers, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, AfricanAmericans and Haitians. There are Southern conservatives, soccer moms, wealthy samesex couples and still wealthier Midwestern retirees. In rural pockets in the states middle, there are poor farmers and even poorer farmworkers.

Political preferences break down loosely by region. North Florida is solidly conservative. South Florida generally votes Democratic. Then theres the Interstate 4 corridor, stretching from Tampa in the west to Daytona Beach in the east. Some have called it the most crucial swing region in the most crucial swing state in the nation.

It cant be said enough: Florida is a microcosm of the United States.

Because of this, Obama and Romney and their wives, vice presidential picks and high profile political supporters have held dozens of rallies over the last two years. Its also one of the reasons why Republicans chose Tampa as the site of its national convention this past August.

Asus EN8600 GTS GeForce 8600 GTS Video Card

When it comes to computer hardware they dont get much bigger or better than Asus. Even some computer users that wouldnt be defined as enthusiasts know and trust the Asus brand which shows just how far they have penetrated the market. Today we are taking a few minutes to look at one of the latest hardware pieces from Asus, the EN8600GTS. We have had a few different 8600 GTS through our paws but nothing quite like this. Asus has always provided great addins with their products and the EN8600GTS is no exception. Lets take a look.

The first thing that really stuck out at me was the box literally. The EN8600GTS came in a box that was about 3 inches longer than any other that we had on hand. Asus has done a great job on the artwork for this package, it clearly displays the company name, type of card, and the amount of memory which are the most important things when it comes time to plunk down your cash.

When I sat down to write this article I started searching the online sites to see what kind of prices this card was going for and was surprised to see that there are two different versions of the EN8600GTS. Our card came with the reference style heat sink fan combo while another version of the card comes with a larger aluminum heat sink. At around $160 the 8600 GTS is a good choice for those of you looking to break into DirectX10 gaming without breaking your wallet.

Taking a closer look at the bundle that came with our card, we received a component cable for hooking our PC up to an HDTV. Also included is a single DVI to VGA adapter. The heat sink on our card says that it is the Stalker edition but oddly enough, the game was not included in our bundle. What we did get was a CD wallet, VGA drivers and the Asus software. While the bundle might be considered a little light, its better than average for the price that the card sells for.

Samajwadi Party moves adjournment motion over soldiers

New Delhi: The brazen killing of five Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control in the Poonch sector in Jammu and Kashmir late Monday night echoed in Parliament on the second day of its Monsoon Session on Tuesday.

Terming it as a serious matter, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav moved an adjournment motion on the killing of Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops.

Seeking answers from the Congress government, the veteran Samajwadi Party politician said, There is a grave danger on the border; weve been warning this government. Both China and Pakistan are attacking India.

Blaming Congress and BJP for border row with China and Pakistan, Mulayam said that the two parties have given away Tibet to China and both are responsible for the border controversy.

The PM should reply to the House; I know the Defence Minister cannot reply to all these border issues. Are our armed forces weak? Why is that we do not have information? The government should inform us how safe our borders are, asked Mulayam Singh.

MPs from the Left also attacked the UPA government for not rising from its deep slumber on the issue.

SP MP Naresh Agarwal said, Ceasefire violation by the Pakistan troops has become a routine affair. The government must do something in this regard till it is very late.

Similarly, BJP MP Kirti Azad condemned the ceasefire violation by the Pakistani troops and stressed on the need for giving a befitting reply to the neighbouring country.

BJP MP Jaswant Singh also condemned the attack and killing of Indian soldiers.

In his reaction to the incident, J Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted, I was briefed early this morning about the news that five of our soldiers had been killed on the LoC. My heartfelt condolences to their next of kin.

These incidents dont help efforts to normalise or even improve relations with Pak and call in to question the Pak Govts recent overtures, he said.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi also used the opportunity to attack the Congress government at the centre.

From Chinas intrusions to Pakistans ambushes UPA Government has been absolutely lax in securing Indian borders. When will Centre wake up? he tweeted.

My heartfelt condolences to the families of the brave Soldiers who laid down their lives in Poonch, his tweet said, adding, Death of 5 Indian Soldiers is unacceptable.

The issue forced Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajiv Shukla to say that Defence Minister AK Antony will make a statement on the issue later in the day.

The pandemonium and the ruckus over the issue had earlier forced the Speaker of the Lok Sabha to adjourn the Lower House till noon. Meanwhile, amid uproar over the killing of five jawans along LoC, Telangana and other issues also led to the adjournment of Rajya Sabha till noon.

After a long time MULAYAM spoke very well in LOK SABHA on the ISSUE OF Pakistani Chinese aggression his referenceto INDIAN GOVT FAILURE IN DEALING with PAK on disputes infiltration along LOC and CHINESE AGGRESSION IN 1962AND mishandling of Tibet issue by Nehru led congress was not rhetorical but factual it just reminded us that MULAYAM who was trained by LOHIA is one of the few leaders capable of giving the FATAL PUNCHES TO HIS RIVALS AND OPPONENTS , MULAYAM I really wonder how under your leadership corruption , nepotism , mafia controlled admin in AKHILESH GOVT is not only rampant but flourishing shamelessly in TOTAL CONTRAST TO PRINCIPLES OF GOVERNANCE ADVOCATED BY LOHIA JP

Cardboard officer cuts crime at Mass

Health Experts On Air WLFI Schedule WLFI ProgramsAs part of an effort to cut crime at the Alewife MBTA subway and bus station in Cambridge, transit police placed a cardboard cutout of a police officer in the bicycle cage. Hundreds of people use the racks daily.

Deputy Chief Robert Lenehan says the fake cop, along with video cameras and a new lock, has cut bike thefts by 67 percent.

Its also a money saver. Lenehan estimates it would cost $200,000 a year to have an officer watch over the cage fulltime.

The cutout is actually a picture of real MBTA Officer David Silen.

Silen says the split second thieves take to glance at the cutout is enough to discourage them. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.

Ariel Castro house of horrors to be razed

Once the house is demolished, were going to engage the community on what should be done, beginning with the victims, says Gus Frangos, president of Cuyahoga Land Bank, which acquired the property last week. Were going to let a consensus build around what we should do.

Demolition of the house is slated to begin Wednesday. Once thats complete, local officials will lead the process of engaging with the community to determine what should go in its place, Mr. Frangos told the Monitor on Tuesday.

Last week one of the survivors, Michelle Knight, reportedly told the neighbor whose house the three women fled to after their escape in May that shed like to see a park, including a statue of an angel, at the site.

Frangos says the bank hasnt been in touch directly with Ms. Knight or the other two women, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus, about their wishes for the property.

We havent heard from the victims. We own the property now, but our task first and foremost is to remove that negative monument from the neighborhood, he says.

Want your top political issues explained? Get customized DC Decoder updates.

There are two vacant homes next to Mr. Castros that could also be demolished, adding to the square footage for a potential park or monument, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Castros former house at 2207 Seymour Ave. in Cleveland has been under 24hour surveillance since the women escaped on May 6. The electricity in the house was reportedly turned off Monday, and members of Castros family removed some personal items from the house.

Castro was sentenced last week to life without parole, plus 1,000 years, after he pleaded guilty to 937 counts, including kidnapping, rape, and aggravated murder. A plea deal spared Castro a possible death sentence for beating and starving a pregnant Knight until she miscarried.

Retrospective exhibition of paintings by contemporary artist Ilona Sochynsky opens this weekend in New Yorks Ukrainian Museum

New York City, May 10, 2012 Singular Vision: Ilona Sochynsky, , a comprehensive exhibition of more than 50 paintings, including many largescale works from all phases of the artists development, will open to the public on Sunday, May 13, 2012. Curated by Jaroslaw Leshko, Professor Emeritus at Smith College, the exhibition will be on view through October 7.Ilona Sochynsky painting career, entering its fourth decade, presents an oeuvre of visual beauty, intelligence, intensity and complexity. At its core, it is a profoundly personal journey of discovery. Her earliest paintings explore the imagery of Pop Art she was especially drawn to the works of James Rosenquist and Photorealism, a movement prominent in the 1970s. She responded to the latter hyperrealism and its subject matter of cars, motorcycles and street scenes, which she reinterpreted in her work to extraordinary effect.By the 1980s, her focus shifted to a more personal iconography of revealing selfportraits, images of her husband, her sister, and other psychologically compelling imagery that carry within them the universal code of contemporary existence. It is during this probing period that she briefly experimented with a more painterly, expressionist style in order to explore its impact on the content of her work and partly in response to the neoexpressionist movement that dominated the 1980s.In recent decades, Sochynsky has set aside the subjects of her earlier paintings and made the formal concerns the focus of her art. Thus, a series of small paintings done over a period of five years 20062011 is titledFragment. These and other recent works encompass both abstract forms and recognizable natural forms. They are often rendered in interactive fragments and in a series likeCapriccios2006, break out of the rectilinear boundary into irregularly shaped canvases. These works are at once exhuberant and complex in their formal presentation and in their content. They are, as well, among the artists most compelling images. To engage them is to discover the richness of the creative process.Works forA Singular Vision: Ilona Sochynsky, were drawn from private collections, including the artists own holdings, as well as from The Ukrainian Museums permanent collection of fine art.Ilona Sochynskyreceived her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design RISD in 1969 and her MFA from Yale University in 1972. After graduation she successfully ran the Ilona Sochynsky Associates, a graphic design firm, until 1979 when the imperative to paint won out.Solo exhibitions: The Noyes Museum of Art, the Ukrainian Institute of AmericaCollections: Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University, The Ukrainian Museum, The Noyes Museum of Art, Morris Propp Foundation, and private collections. What has been said about Ilona Sochynsky and her artHow enlightening and enjoyable it is to see an oeuvre that renders the issue moot through a hybrid art that encompasses both realism and abstraction, delving into the visual and conceptual potential of both of these artistic worlds Ultimately, through the blending of the naturalistic and the abstract, the ongoing stylistic progression of Sochynskys art offers both stability and transformation, and an art of intriguing effect. Jeffrey Wechsler, Senior CuratorJane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum, RutgersThe State University of New Jersey, 2009Contained within the borders of Ilona Sochynskys work are tumultuous abstract configurations of color and form. Her brilliant palette is accentuated by a profusion of shapes and forms that converge and overlap within the confines of the canvas. Weaver, Curator of Collections and ExhibitionsThe Noyes Museum of Art, 2007A photorealist earlier in her career, Sochynsky has moved increasingly into abstraction. These exciting pieces provide us with a glimpse into that stage in her development when the painterly techniques of her earlier work ran headlong into the more freewheeling design concerns that drove her work forward in the 1990s. Robert AyresARTnews, Summer 2005Moving away from the dense packed compositions full of bright color juxtaposed with dark, hovering, ominous shapes, Sochynsky is finding a new voice in small whimsical floating objects. Individual shapes, often ambiguous and imbued with a personal twist, rendering them momentarily reminiscent of recognizable forms. And yet they simultaneously obscure any particular association, as they hover hauntingly reminding of us of the often surreal juxtaposition of images found in her monumental works. But here, she seems to be exploring a personal shorthand. Christina Saj Curator,Artspace 129, Montclair, NJSochynskys New Artworks,The Ukrainian Weekly, December 21, 2003About the CuratorProfessor Leshkos area of interest is early modernism and his scholarly work has focused on the art of Vienna at the time of turn of the century and specifically the art of Oskar Kokoschka. Professor Leshko has curated numerous exhibitions, includingAlexander Archipenko: Vision and Continuity, the inaugural exhibition in The Ukrainian Museums new location. He has lectured widely and participated in international symposia. His scholarly articles have appeared in journals in the United States, Austria, Japan and Italy.About The Ukrainian Museum acquires, preserves, and exhibits articles of artistic or historic significance to the rich cultural heritage of Ukrainian Americans; its collections include thousands of items of folk art, fine art, and archival material. At its founding in 1976 by the Ukrainian National Women League of America, the Museum was hailed as one of the finest achievements of Americans of Ukrainian descent. Since then, and particularly since its move in 2005 to a new, stateoftheart building in Manhattan vibrant East Village, it has become known as one of the most interesting and dynamic smaller museums in New York City. Each year, the Museum organizes several exhibitions, publishes bilingual English/Ukrainian catalogues, and presents a wide range of public and educational programs, including concerts, films, lectures, courses, workshops, and special events.

Choosing the Best DDR3 SDRAM for Ivy Bridge

It not easy to write something interesting about system memory because we have all got used to the fact that a computers performance doesn depend much on the clock rate and timings of DDR3 SDRAM. Moreover, considering the low memory prices we have today, it is more reasonable for most users to invest into a larger amount of system memory rather than into improving its specs. The amount of memory is a much more tangible and comprehensible thing than its clock rate and timings whose effect is far from obvious.

Thats why overclockerfriendly memory has become a product for perfectionists while average users have come to be satisfied with regular DDR31333 and DDR31600 SDRAM which they can occasionally overclock a little, just for fun. That the way things were and are, but how will they be? We raise this question because the new Ivy Bridge processor family has come about and, even though alike to their predecessors in many ways, the new CPUs have certain features that can change this situation.

For example, the Ivy Bridge series lacks the old limitations concerning the top clock rate of DDR3 SDRAM. In practical terms it means that such CPUs can theoretically be used together with highspeed memory up to DDR33200 SDRAM which doesn even exist as yet. The makers of overclockerfriendly memory modules have responded to this enthusiastically. Fast products, such as DDR32400, abound in shops now, so the gap between the clock rates of regular and premium memory products has got as wide as 100%! One can hardly believe that this difference can never show up in everyday tasks.

Here another argument in favor of this point: the Ivy Bridge series are generally faster than their predecessors and need to be fed data at a faster rate. In other words, it is quite possible that the new CPUs won be satisfied with the speed of DDR31333 and DDR1600 in everyday applications anymore. The new integrated graphics core which shares the same memory subsystem with the execution cores must also be taken into account. The GPU has got faster in the Ivy Bridge design whereas memory bandwidth is a highly important parameter for today GPUs, directly affecting their texturemapping speed. We guess the performance of the integrated graphics core is going to depend on the clock rate and timings of DDR3 SDRAM.

So, there are quite a lot of arguments in favor of checking out Ivy Bridge platforms with different memory settings. Our benchmarking results may turn out to be not as predictable as we think after all!To write this review we took an LGA1155 mainboard with Intel Z77 Express chipset and installed overclockerfriendly Core i5 processors, of both Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge generations.

Overall we ended up using the following hardware and software components:

Intel Core i52550K, overclocked to 4.5 GHz Sandy Bridge, 4 cores, 6 MB L3;

Intel Core i53570K, overclocked to 4.5 GHz Ivy Bridge, 4 cores, 6 MB L3.

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2 GB/256 bit GDDR5, 1006/6008 MHz.

Hard drive: Intel SSD 520 240 GB SSDSC2CW240A3K5.

Power supply unit: Tagan TG880U33II 880 W.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology;

NVIDIA GeForce 301.42 Driver.

Take note that we overclocked our CPUs to 4.5 GHz during this test session because this helped us get a better idea of the correlation between memory settings and performance.
