Sanfords settle trespassing complaint
first lady Jenny Sanford will not appear in Family Court Thursday after reaching an outofcourt settlement related to trespassing allegations.
Mark Sanford, who won Tuesdays 1st Congressional District race, admitted that he is in contempt for this and previous instances of trespassing upon Plaintiffs property, according to court documents filed Wednesday in Charleston.
Family Court Judge Jocelyn Cate ordered him to pay $5,000 toward his former wifes fees and costs associated with the case.
And should there be a future violation of the courts order, Jenny Sanford shall be allowed to introduce evidence of Mark Sanfords past violations for the purpose of establishing a pattern of conduct.
Jenny Sanford had claimed in court documents that she confronted her exhusband leaving her Sullivans Island home Feb. 3, using his cellphone for a flashlight. Her attorney filed a complaint the next day. The couples divorce settlement says neither can enter the others home without permission.
Mark Sanford said he had entered the home to watch the second half of the Super Bowl with the couples 14yearold son.
Jenny Sanford had warned him about coming to her home in the past and demanded he stop her attorney sent a letter to the exgovernor and police, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.
Jenny Sanford also filed a complaint against her exhusband for failing to make his $5,000 yearly contribution for one of their sons college education costs. That issue has been resolved, Jenny Sanford has said.
A spokesman for Mark Sanford declined to comment on the settlement Wednesday. Efforts to reach Jenny Sanford were unsuccessful..
